The Plein Air art movement began in the late 1880′s when artists began to leave their studio’s to paint outdoors. This became possible with the invention of the paint tube which enabled the art studio to become portable. This movement was made famous by Canada’s Group of Seven, the Impressionists in France, and Winslow Homer in the United States.
