Helpful hints for winter paint outs
- Winter watercolour solutions = clear rubbing alcohol, vodka or salt & water solution to replace water. Your paints may behave in an unusual manner.
- Oil painters even water soluble paints are not as badly effected by the cold. You can use solvent in both types.
- Acrylics will get stiff, and can be damaged by the cold. A hot water bottle under your paints in a closed insulated container can help. See Nancy’s set up for acrylics.
- Graphite and pastel are not effected by the cold.
Things to bring with you
Plein Air easel
Plein air pochade box
Paint and drawing supplies of your choice
Your drawing supplies can be as little as a pencil, pad and sharpener or as elaborate as a full french easel box of oils and canvases. If you are just starting out, we suggest starting small.
