Malden Park West Monday October 29th

Malden Park West, (Matchette Rd parking lot) Fall colours anyone?

October 29th 10:00 A.M. until ?

This side of Malden Park has interesting wooded areas, rolling hills and walking trails.  There aren’t many hills in Essex County, this will give you a new vantage point to paint from.

Take Tecumseh Rd West to Matchette Road.
Alternatively, take E.C. Row to Matchette Rd.  The parking lot is across from Mic-Mac park.  We will most likely be up in the hills

There is no way to predict what the weather will be like, but here is a link to a weather site that gives hourly updates on the weather.

Culture Days in Amherstburg at Navy Yard Park

Saturday & Sunday Sept. 29th & 30th
Navy Yard Park Paint Out
Amherstburg, Ontario

Time: 10:00 – 4:00

We’ve been asked to take part in this event by the town of Amherstburg.  The park is across the street from the Ice Cream Parlour.

Link to Map of the Kings Navy Yard Park:  https://goo.gl/maps/zffb3ZiL41E2  (actually a map to the ice cream parlour.)  We will be across the street.

You might wonder why we volunteer in these events.

  • We paint in these parks free all year round.  This is an opportunity to give back to the community.
  • It is an honour to be asked to take part, it shows we are a respected and recognized group.
  • It gives us, as artists, an opportunity to educate the public about our art form.
  • It’s an opportunity to network with the public.   Hand out those business cards!
  • We can tell the public of upcoming group and personal shows.

When we do weekend events such as this we don’t go out on the following Monday.  The reasons for this is that we need you to take part on the weekend if possible.  Even if it’s only for a few hours.

Happy Painting,

Hawk fest information for the public

Join experts from the Holiday Beach Migration Observatory for this natural spectacle. Watch thousands of birds of prey flying overheard. Take in free programs hosted by local experts and see live hawks and owls up close. A great family event for experts and amateurs alike.

HBMO experts will be on-site conducting hawk banding and adoptions. Event goers will get up close and personal to a variety of raptors as experts measure, tag, and then release these birds back into the wild. Visitors will also be in awe at the live raptor display of Kingsport Environmental, a local organization that rescues and rehabilitates raptors and promotes falconry through education programs.

Free educational programs will compliment the ongoing banding and live hawk display throughout both weekends. Local experts will be on-site to teach on a wide range of birding and nature-related topics. These programs include:

HBMO’s Bob Pettit will share his years of experience on identifying hawks in flights.
Ted Kloske, of Henry’s Windsor and Maple Grove Studios, Glenn Gervais, of Southshore Outdoor Photography, and Alex Denonville will help budding photographers get their best nature shot.
Learn about the mystery of the iconic monarch butterfly with Gina Pannunzio of ERCA, and Paul Desjardins of Essex County Nature.
HBMO’s Jeremy Hatt will share his tips and tricks on using mobile applications like iNaturalist

September 15-16 & 22-23 from 9:00am – 3:00pm

Programs are free with the festival admission fee of $15 per vehicle.
